Pantsuit Nation Joins Supermajority
The organizations will come together to harness the power of women and build a more equitable world
New York — Today, Supermajority, an organization dedicated to creating a more equitable world for women of all backgrounds, races, and ages, announced Pantsuit Nation is now a part of its organization.
Pantsuit Nation began as a Facebook Group founded by Libby Chamberlain and Cortney Tunis in 2016 to create a space where women could share personal stories and reflect on why the 2016 election—both as it approached and in the aftermath of its result—was meaningful to them. Pantsuit Nation’s mission is to build a foundation for a more equitable and engaged democracy. This growing, diverse community now boasts over 3 million members.
The joining of these two organizations will harness the power of women, and together build a world where women are truly equal. Through joining Supermajority, Pantsuit Nation Group members will be able to sign-up as Supermajority members and gain access to the tools, resources, and knowledge they need to channel the energy and activism of this moment and build it into a long-term movement for change. Supermajority will continue to uplift and advance the mission of Pantsuit Nation to build a foundation for a more equitable and engaged democracy where the voices of the most marginalized are at the center.
“We are very excited about this next step for Pantsuit Nation,” said Libby Chamberlain, co-founder of Pantsuit Nation. “Joining forces with Supermajority will provide additional infrastructure and staff that will support Pantsuit Nation’s longevity and reach. We look forward to being a part of an organization that reflects the values of the Pantsuit Nation community.”
“Pantsuit Nation has done an incredible job in creating a platform that uplifts the experiences of women, particularly those of women of color, transwomen, and women with disabilities” said Alicia Garza, Supermajority co-founder, co-founder of Black Lives Matter Global Network and principal of Black Futures Lab. “Supermajority believes that in order to create systemic change we must center and uplift these stories, and we look forward to continuing this work with Pantsuit Nation as part of Supermajority.”
“Pantsuit Nation is so eager to work with such an inspiring coalition of activists,” said Cortney Tunis, co-founder of Pantsuit Nation. “Together we will ensure that the issues our communities care about are taken seriously and brought to the attention of our nation’s leaders. The combination of diverse storyteller voices and activist action that has served as the fuel for Pantsuit Nation will be amplified and expanded because of this union. I couldn’t be more thrilled.”
“We are thrilled to have Pantsuit Nation officially join the Supermajority family,” said Cecile Richards, Supermajority co-founder. “It’s been incredible to watch Pantsuit Nation grow into this amazing community of over three million members and we want to build on their work– cultivating a space where folks can share their hopes for a future where we are all truly equal. Pantsuit Nation has shown the world what it looks like to be proactive and engaged in our democracy. Together we will be unstoppable as we lift women up and make sure the issues women care about are priorities for everyone.”
“We at Supermajority are excited to link arms with such a dynamic and powerful community as we build our movement for true equality in our country,” said Ai-jen Poo, Supermajority co-founder and Executive Director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance.“ Together, we will welcome everyone who wants to join a supportive community, get information on the most pressing issues of our time and be a part of organizing the largest women-to-women voter engagement program.”
The Pantsuit Nation Facebook Group will continue to be a space where members can share their stories with one another to inspire action and create meaningful change. The Pantsuit Nation Facebook Page, which is separate from the Group and has long acted as a channel for women to find relevant, engaging, and trustworthy news about the issues they care most about, will now become the primary distribution platform of Supermajority News, a new project of Supermajority and Supermajority Education Fund.
