Post-Election Day Statement from Supermajority’s Amanda Brown Lierman: “Women Showed Up”

Washington, D.C. – Amanda Brown Lierman, Executive Director of Supermajority, a women’s equality organization focused on making sure women turned out to vote in this year’s midterms and beyond, issued the following statement after Election Day:

“In 2022, Supermajority set out to accomplish one thing — to mobilize a multiracial, multigenerational coalition of women voters — and we did. As an organization, Supermajority contacted more than 3.6 million voters in our five key states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. 

While we wait for all the votes to be counted, there are a few things we already know to be true:

1. Women SHOWED UP. This year, women registered to vote in record numbers, demonstrating just how powerful the collective women’s voting bloc is when we come together. Preliminary exit polling data shows that record numbers of women turned out to vote across the country and contributed to big wins up and down the ballot in key battleground states, including Michigan and Pennsylvania. 
2. Women voters matter. Women are the majority of people in this country. We are a driving force of the economy, we are the backbones of our families and our democracy, and we are demanding a voice in the political process. We will no longer accept policy decisions made about us, without us.
3. Women made a statement on abortion. Women voters let the country know that the vote to protect abortion access earlier this year in Kansas was not a fluke. Voters enshrined the right to abortion in the constitution in Michigan, California, and Vermont, and defeated a constitutional amendment to restrict abortion in Mitch McConnell’s Kentucky. 

Regardless of the final results of this election, it’s clear that women are engaged, women are powerful, and we will not stop voting to protect — and expand — our freedoms. As women, we deserve a government that represents us, that respects our bodies, and that values our role as leaders in the workforce and at home. We will continue to make our voices heard until this is true, until the Majority Rules are realized for all women, and until there is justice.
