New York, N.Y., — Today, Supermajority announces the launch of “Supercharge: Women All In,” a 38-day national campaign to mobilize women for the 2020 election. This get-out-the-vote effort will kick-off on September 26 with a virtual event, followed by a series of weekly actions and events for the community.
Women in this country — especially women of color — are feeling the brunt of COVID-19, police brutality, lack of healthcare access, and the spiraling economy. On top of that, women are acutely aware that the right to vote is under attack. What women need now more than ever is space to recharge — to supercharge. “Supercharge: Women All In” is a virtual event that will bring together thousands of women to laugh, sing, dance, and celebrate women’s political power while fueling a large-scale, woman-to-woman voter contact campaign.
During this campaign, Supermajority, a community of nearly one million people, will be trained and activated to send 4.5 million text messages, make at least 250,000 phone calls, write 50,000 letters, and utilize the powerful tactic of relational organizing to speak to people they know about voting. The campaign is focused on educating and mobilizing two million women, particularly young women and women of color in target states (Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Arizona) to vote in November.
Today, Supermajority also released “What Women Want 2020,” the issues leaders must prioritize, which is grounded in new Supermajority research on how women feel about the upcoming election and new research Supermajority Education Fund did with Avalanche Insights to learn what issues women care most about. The issues women need leaders to prioritize are systemic racism and inequality; immediate and long-term economic relief; access to quality, affordable health care; and protecting and expanding our right to vote. Specifically, women told us leaders need to have plans to end the COVID-19 pandemic, combat rampant racism and injustice, protect the Affordable Care Act, raise the minimum wage, provide more stimulus payments, protect our democracy, and help us take care of the people we love. Partners in support of these priorities include TIME’S UP Now, Voto Latino, Latino Victory Project, Higher Heights, UltraViolet, Black Voters Matter, Swing Left, She Se Puede, MomsRising Together, NARAL Pro-Choice America, National Education Association, American Federation of Teachers, Service Employees International Union, and more.
Thousands of women will gather for the 3-hour virtual Day of Action event on Sept. 26 at 2PM ET/11AM PT, featuring comedy, musical performances, engaging discussions on the “What Women Want 2020” priorities, inspiring speakers, and more. Political changemakers like Hillary Rodham Clinton, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Representatives Ayanna Pressley, Veronica Escobar, Sharice Davids and Katie Porter, Secretary Julián Castro, Jamaal Bowman, as well as Supermajority co-founders, Cecile Richards, Alicia Garza, Ai-jen Poo, Deirdre Schifeling, Jess Morales Rocketto, and Katherine Grainger will be on hand and joined by actors Eva Longoria and Ashley Blaine Featherson.
“We know when women come together, we are an unstoppable force, and so we are creating space to laugh together and inspire each other as we prepare to make lasting change in this election and beyond,” Supermajority Co-founder Ai-jen Poo said.
“Women are the majority of voters, and it is way past time that we harness our collective power to determine the direction of our country, and to make sure this government prioritizes and reflects us,” Supermajority Co-founder Cecile Richards said.
“What excites me about this election is knowing that women are the Supermajority and we will be out in full force, making it plain what issues our leaders must prioritize for us,” Supermajority Co-founder Alicia Garza said.
After the kickoff event, “Supercharge: Women All In” will continue the momentum with weekly voter engagement moments through Election Day, November 3, that will activate, educate, and ignite women’s political power.
