Supermajority Applauds Historic Confirmation of the Honorable Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court of the United States
Plan to Engage Women Launches Today in Several States Where Women are Suffering
Washington, D.C. – In response to the historic confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States, Supermajority Executive Director Amanda Brown Lierman issued the following statement:
“This is an extremely exciting day; for the first time in its 233-year history, the Supreme Court will finally have a Black woman justice on its bench. We are thrilled by Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation, and we celebrate her success, her decades of impressive public service, and her extensive list of professional accomplishments. Her confirmation marks a new era for the highest court and a very special moment for our country and our democracy.
“Judge Jackson has dedicated her career to protecting our most important rights and freedoms. From her time as a public defender to her work as a federal judge, she has fought to ensure that the law and the courts treat every single person equally and fairly. Judge Jackson’s commitment to an equitable application of the rule of law will help make America more just for those whose rights have long been violated and whose needs have long been ignored.
“This is a historic moment for all women, but especially for women of color. Representation matters, and little Black girls everywhere will finally be able to see themselves represented on the highest court of the land. I could not be more proud to have Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson on the bench. I will be celebrating her with my three daughters today, and every April 7 will be Ketanji Brown Jackson day in our house.”
