Supermajority Applauds Passage of Inflation Reduction Act, Calls for Investments in Issues Disproportionately Affecting Women
Plan to Engage Women Launches Today in Several States Where Women are Suffering
Washington, D.C. – In response to the U.S. Senate passing the Inflation Reduction Act, Supermajority Executive Director Amanda Brown Lierman issued the following statement:
“Today’s passage of the Inflation Reduction Act is a major step in lowering costs for women and their families. It is a much needed lifeline — lowering prescription prices, tackling rising costs of everyday goods, and reducing carbon emissions.
“It is also an important reminder that on Election Day, we’re not just picking people, we are picking what issues our policymakers will address. Today is an example of our elected leaders doing what we sent them to do.
“But we cannot ignore that there was a lot lost in negotiations. Too much, in fact. As is too often the case, the issues that matter most to women, such as childcare, paid leave, and better working conditions were the first on the chopping block.
“Women were the ones who got President Biden elected, and while bills such as today’s are encouraging milestones, we will not stop asking for more. We will continue to push for our experiences to be at the center of solutions addressing some of the biggest issues in our country — because when they are, we are all better for it.”
