Supermajority Applauds President Biden’s Announcement of New Guidelines to Protect Reproductive Rights
Plan to Engage Women Launches Today in Several States Where Women are Suffering
Washington, D.C. — In response to President Biden’s announcement of new guidelines and grants to protect reproductive freedoms, Supermajority Executive Director Amanda Brown Lierman issued the following statement:
“We applaud President Biden for committing to safeguarding our reproductive freedoms at an unprecedented time when women’s rights are under attack at the local, state, and federal levels.
“The Supreme Court’s decision to gut the constitutional right to abortion has emboldened extremist politicians to impose dangerous restrictions that cut off access to care for millions of women and people who need abortions and force medical professionals to make an impossible choice between advocating for their patients and jail time.
“In the face of escalating threats to our freedoms, women will continue to organize together and vote together like our lives depend on it –– because they do. We’ve already seen the power of women: In 2020, women elected Joe Biden and urged him to deliver on his promises to women. And in 2022, women have been registering to vote in record numbers and have made their voices heard on abortion access in states like Kansas and Michigan.
“We know that our vote is one of the most important tools we have to shift the tide toward progress on issues that matter to women. And on Election Day, we will march to the polls with everyone we know to ensure we elect candidates who represent us in the halls of power.”
