Supermajority Celebrates Swearing-In of the Honorable Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court of the United States

Plan to Engage Women Launches Today in Several States Where Women are Suffering

Washington, D.C. In response to the historic swearing-in of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States, Supermajority Executive Director Amanda Brown Lierman issued the following statement:

“Today we are filled with excitement and hope as the Honorable Ketanji Brown Jackson is sworn in as the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court in its more than 200-year history.

“For too long, Black women and girls in this country have not seen themselves represented in our democracy. Justice Brown’s position on the Supreme Court changes that for us, and her commitment to safeguarding our most fundamental rights is essential especially at a time when the Court is making decisions that attack our lives and well-being.

“Today, we honor this historic moment –– and then we continue the work. We will not stand idly by while Justice Brown’s new colleagues gut our well-established and widely-supported right to abortion for political gain. We will organize, march, and vote to build a more equal world where our rights are safe and our lives, bodies, work, and families are finally valued.

“We know the fight for justice never stops it requires patience, persistence, and people. And while it never stops, it is worth pausing to celebrate the wins along the way. A Black woman on the court is the win that I need and that our democracy needs. So today, I celebrate.”
