Supermajority’s Amanda Brown Lierman on the Deadly Shootings in Buffalo and Orange County
Plan to Engage Women Launches Today in Several States Where Women are Suffering
Washington, D.C. – In response to the deadly shootings this weekend, Supermajority Executive Director Amanda Brown Lierman issued the following statement:
“My heart is broken for the mothers forced to bury their children and the 10 families who now have an empty seat at the table. The attack in Buffalo was targeted — fueled by racist rhetoric and hatred.
“The Buffalo shooting was one of several that occurred over the weekend in the midst of marches across the country in support of abortion access. These issues are and always have been intersectional, which is why the fight for women’s rights goes beyond health and reproductive justice. We must address the root causes of gun violence — including racism and white supremacy.
“Our lives, our bodies, and our neighborhoods should be safe — free from fear and violence. But too often, places of joy and community such as churches, flea markets, and local businesses become scenes of these violent attacks. Enough is enough. We need leaders who will work to protect our families and our communities.”
