Supermajority’s Executive Director Amanda Brown Lierman on Delaying the Passage of Build Back Better

Plan to Engage Women Launches Today in Several States Where Women are Suffering

Washington, D.C. – Last night, President Biden announced that negotiations have stalled on the Build Back Better Act, which the Senate no longer expects to pass by the end of the year. In response, Supermajority Executive Director Amanda Brown Lierman issued the following statement on behalf of the more than 3.5 million women in the Supermajority community:

“Yesterday’s news that passage of Build Back Better is delayed is the latest disappointment for the millions of women pushed to the limit. The Build Back Better Act will help women across the country, especially Black women and women of color, by bringing down costs for us and our families – costs like childcare, eldercare, education, and prescription drugs. These investments will change lives and they can’t come soon enough.

“For nearly two years, we’ve managed work, our families, and our lives during the pandemic without the support we need. We are tired, and we can’t wait another year for a lifeline. Letting the child tax credit expire is not an option. Making us wait even longer for long overdue investments in the work we do day in and day out is not an option. Leaving us without assistance as we enter yet another wave of this pandemic is not an option.

“A supermajority of women voters came together across age, race and background to put Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the White House and Democratic majorities in the House and Senate. We did our job, like we always do. Now, we need our elected officials to do their job and provide women with the relief we need. The Senate needs to act immediately when it returns and pass the Build Back Better Act as soon as possible.”
