Supermajority’s Taylor Salditch on Consecutive Mass Shootings in California

New York, N.Y. – Taylor Salditch, interim executive director of Supermajority, issued the following statement today on last night’s mass shooting in Half Moon Bay, Calif. that killed seven people and Saturday’s mass shooting in Monterey Park, Calif. that killed 11 people and wounded nine others as they were celebrating Lunar New Year:

“All of us at Supermajority are devastated by these senseless acts of violence that have only added to the ugly stain gun violence has left on our country’s history. I am deeply saddened that during a weekend of celebration that should be marked with joy and hope, families, children, and the elderly feared for their lives and are now mourning those lost to two more horrific mass shootings in our country.

“These tragic events add to the heightened pain and suffering Asian communities have endured over the past few years and remind us so starkly of the pervasiveness of gun violence in our lives. We can’t accept this reality where every day we step out into our neighborhoods and our workplaces, we gamble with our safety.

“Every single life lost and irrevocably traumatized by the rippling effects of gun violence is a direct result of our political leaders’ inaction to move forward common sense solutions. Congress and President Biden must boldly stand up to gun violence now so that we can live — and go to school, the grocery store, the mall, or a community gathering — in peace.”
